The day was amazing, sunny but not too hot, the view of the ocean was beautiful and I felt incredible good! A través de un amigo conocí a una nueva amiga que entrena con un Team, ellos van a correr Buenos Aires que es el mismo día que Chicago, así que me calza perfecto!&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Me ha costado mucho entrenar con más gente, estaba acostumbrada a andar sola y es un cambio grande que me ha dado hartos nervios... También el soltar y poner mi confianza en el entrenador aunque yo no entienda bien lo que está haciendo ha sido difícil, con lo controladora que soy!!! Pero creo que una vez más, esta meta que me puse me regala un aprendizaje muy importante!!!&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;"&gt;Cuenta regresiva: semana 8!!! Through a friend I met a new girlfriend who trains with a team, they are going to run Buenos Aires, which is the same day as Chicago, so it fits with my own plan perfectly!&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;It has been hard for me to train with other people, I was used to train alone and it's a big change that has made me nervous more than once... I'm halfway through my training program. Last Saturday I did 16mi for the first time, which is about half of what I'm gonna be running on D-day.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;So far, so good! Cuando partí, la verdad es que no creía realmente que mi condición física y mi capacidad cardiovascular iban a mejorar. El cuerpo humano es increíble, se adapta a todo, de una u otra forma, se adapta. Por eso hay que ayudarlo a que se adapte de la mejor forma.&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Ayer corrí 19Kms. Es lo más que he corrido desde que partí entrenando y francamente, cuando partí, creo que en realidad no creía que pudiera, pero lo hice!!! estoy tan feliz!!! When I started, I really didn't believe that my physical condition and my cardiovascular capacity could improve. The human body is amazing, it adapts to everything, one way or another, it adapts. It's the most I have ran since I started training and quite frankly, when I started, I think I didn't really believe I could, but I did!!! I'm so happy!!! He tenido altos y bajos, momentos difíciles (con la salud) y de los otros, pero no he dejado de entrenar ni un solo día. Me lo tomo un día a la vez... y aunque hay días que está lloviendo, o hace frío y preferiría quedarme en casita... pienso en el 11 de octubre y en cruzar la meta y me motivo a entrenar... una día a la vez.&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Hoy, soy capaz de salir a correr lo que me corresponde? Mañana? I have had ups and downs, difficult moments (healthwise) and the other kind as well, but I haven't stopped training even one day. I'm taking it one day at a time... and even though there are some days when it has been raining, or it's cold and I'd rather stay at home... I think of the 11th of October and crossing that finish line, and that gets me going... one day at a time.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Today, am I able to go out and run what I have to? Nuevamente el tema de mi porcentaje de grasa salió a relucir. En verdad es un problema. Tengo 29% de grasa corporal (juro que no se me nota!) y debo llegar a 20%. Y dormir más. Al menos 7 horas diarias.&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Así que me puso a dieta: todas mis comidas excepto la inmediatamente después de los entrenamientos van a ser a dieta. Después de los entrenamientos tengo que comer mucha fruta, jugos de fruta idealmente, y lo más difícil para mí es que tengo que usar azúcar y comer pan blanco. Pero bueno, él es el especialista así que al menos le voy a dar 6 semanas la oportunidad de demostrar que sabe lo que está haciendo. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Ahora me voy a dormir!!!&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"&gt;Cuenta regresiva: Semana 15&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;-------------------------&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Last Friday I went to see a sports nutrition specialist. Again the topic of my body fat percentage came to discussion. It's a problem actually. I have 29% of body fat (I swear I don't look like that!) and I have to come down to 20%. And sleep more. At least 7 hours a day.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;So he put me on a diet: all my meals except for the one immediatly after training are gonna be diet meals. After trainings I have to eat a lot of fruit, ideally juices, and what is more difficult for me, is that I have to use sugar and eat white bread. Somehow I think that I have to run perfectly, with a perfect technique, perfect speed, perfect breathing, etc... but finally I accepted that I don't really need to do it perfectly... it wasn't easy to let that go... Ya sea con mapas de las calles o con foto satelital, permite trazar el recorrido que uno hace corriendo, fijando puntos de referencia, y da la distancia total.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Para los que corremos en la ciudad y no sabíamos bien cuánto era lo corríamos con esta aplicación podemos estar más seguros. Se pueden guardar diferentes recorridos y también está la opción de ver la elevación. La foto es el circuito donde estoy entrenando. Lo mínimo que estoy haciendo son 7 vueltas que son 6,3Km. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Tienen una aplicación para el iPhone, que si bien la bajé aún no la pruebo, pero se supone que usa el GPS del teléfono para registrar la ruta que uno corrió.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;------------------------------&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Map your Run:&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;My friend Nia recommended this website to me and it's actually pretty good. Be it through street maps or satellite pictures, it allows you to map where you run, setting some reference points and it gives you the total distance.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;For us who run in the streets and didn't know exactly the distance we were doing with this application we can be sure. You can store different runs and there's also the option to see the elevation. The picture is of the park where I am training. I do at least 7 laps, which equals 6,3Km. Esto es indicador de diferentes situaciones de estrés, donde lo más común es el estrés sicológico, el sobreentrenamiento y la falta de sueño.&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Como las dos primeras estoy segura de que no son, y la tercera es un hecho, mi compromiso a partir de esta semana es dormir mínimo 6 horas diarias durante la semana y 8 durante el fin de semana. Lo hago acá en frente de todos ustedes para que me lo cobren.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Gracias!!!&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;--------------------&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Last Sunday I ran 10K and on Monday I had this bloodwork done, that my doctor had ordered.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Everything came up pretty normal, except for Cortisol, which was a little high. This is indicative of different situations of stress, where the most common are psychological stress, overtraining and sleep deprivation.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Since I am positive that it's none of the first two, and the third one is a fact, my commitment here starting this week is to sleep a minimum of 6 hours/day on workdays and 8/day during the weekend. Probablemente producto de la discopatía que tengo ahí. Lo que me sorprendió fue mi pensamiento. En lugar de pensar "que mal, no voy a poder correr con este dolor" o " voy a tener que devolverme" o algo así, mi pensamiento fue "quiero llegar luego al parque para empezar a correr y que se me pase el dolor".&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;En verdad me sorprendió mucho el pensamiento y me hizo darme cuenta de que a pesar de que recién estoy aprendiendo la técnica y los focos y la forma... el ChiRunning sí funciona!!!&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Comencé a correr lento concentrandome en la postura, la inclinación de la pelvis y relajando los musculos y a los minutos ya no me dolía nada!!!&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;--------------------&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I am a believer, this really works.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Yesterday I was walking to the park where I run (it's close to the apartment where I live so I go by foot and start running as I get there) and I started to feel lower back pain. Probably due to the dicopathy that I have there. What surprised me was my thought. Instead of thinking "this is too bad, I am not gonna be able to run with this pain", or "I better go back home", or something like that, my thought was "I need to get to the park asap so I can start running and the pain goes away".&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;That thought really surprised me a lot and made me realize that even though I am just starting to learn the techinque and form focuses... En general no tengo problema para andar sola en ningún lado y nunca consideré ir con alguien.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Pero últimamente entre que me han estado sugiriendo y he estado pensando que tal vez no es mala idea pedirle a alguien que me acompañe... No es que me pueda pasar algo, pero por último para que me saque la fotito cuando cruce la meta... Soy pésima para pedir ese tipo de cosas... y tampoco estoy segura de a quien pedirle... uds. que opinan?&lt;br /&gt;-------------------------------------&lt;br /&gt;I always considered going to Chicago alone. In general I don't have any problem being by myself everywhere and I did not consider bringing someone.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;But lately some people have been suggesting it and I have been thinking that maybe it is not such a bad idea to ask somebody to come with me... It's not that something could happen to me, but at least there would be somebody to take my picture when I cross the finish line... El CAMINO es mi META.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;El CAMINO es mi META.&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Y el camino ya partió. Estoy aprendiendo mucho de mi misma. Y de otras personas a mi alrededor.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;El Camino es mi Meta... por lo tanto... ya lo logré!!! :o)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;---------------------&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Sometimes I forget, and I need to remind myself. The PATH is my GOAL.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;The PATH is my GOAL.&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And the path already started. I am learning a whole lot about myself. Es nuevo, pero se siente bien.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Aprovecho de compartir mis objetivos al correr:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;ol&gt;&lt;li&gt;Correr sin dolor en las rodillas&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;No tener dolor en las caderas o lesiones en las caderas debido a correr&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Terminar bien la maratón&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Correr sin lesiones&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Terminar mis sesiones sientiendome bien&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Mejorar mi salud en general y mi condición física&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Reducir o eliminar mi necesidad de medicamentos para la Insulino Resistencia&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Sentirme mejor acerca de mí misma&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Aprender a concentrarme y a escuchar mi cuerpo mientras corro, hacer una especie de "meditación corriendo"&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Sentir que puedo hacer lo que quiera hacer, sin importar lo que haya creído posible en el pasado: Mi pasado no Determina mi PRESENTE&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ol&gt;&lt;p&gt;---------------------------------&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;There... El miércoles pasado finalmente fui a ver mi médico, el que andaba de viaje y no había podido ver los resultados de mi Resonancia Magnética.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;p&gt;Por suerte había ido al otro doctor antes! Al menos ya estaba advertida de que había una posibilidad de que me quisieran operar... y así fue! Mi médico era de la idea de que la indicación inmediata frente a los resultados de mi examen era cirugía. Esto significaba que no podía correr la maratón este año.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Como tenía la otra opinión me puse un poco más osada y le dije que no me pensaba operar antes de la Maratón. Que mi plan era entrenar y si durante el entrenamiento sentía molestias o dolor, obviamente iba a parar y si era demasiado, no iba a correr y eventualmente me iba a operar. Pero no sin antes hacer el intento (mi dolor ni siquiera está directamente relacionado con el ejercicio!). Estuvo de acuerdo (qué alternativa tenía!), así que ese es plan! :o) &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;PS.: Dejo pantallazo de mi confirmación de inscripción!!!&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;-------------------------------------&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I had not written about this, but I think it is important to do so. Last Wednesday I went finally to see my doctor, the one that was on a trip and had not seen yet the results of my MRI.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Luckily I had seen the other doctor before! At least I was warned that there was a chance they wanted to do surgery on me... and it was the case! My doctor said that the immediate indication regarding the results of my MRI was surgery, which meant that I wasn't gonna run this year.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Since I already had the other doctor's opinion, I was feeling a bit bold and told him that I did not want to have the surgery before the maraton. That my plan was to start training and if during the training i felt discomfort or pain, obviously I would stop and if it was unbearable, I wasn't gonna run, and eventually have surgery. But not without giving it a try first (my pain is not even exercise triggered!). Mike y el vendedor me asesoraron muy bien, sobretodo cada vez que me dejaba llevar por los colores o lo lindas que eran algunas... que difícil abstraerme de eso... al fin y al cabo... soy mujer!!! Ya las he usado 2 veces para salir a correr y se sienten increíbles!&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;----------------------------------------&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I have my marathon shoes already!!!&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I was in LA last Monday and my friend Mike Magdaleno took me to the best sports goods store: Village Runner, in Manhattan Beach. Mike and the salesperson there advised me very well, especially every time I got carried away by the bright colors and beauty of some of the shoes... so difficult to get focused on what matters... in the end... I am a girl!!! (Thanks for everything Mike!).&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Well, thanks to both of them, I got myself the ugliest most comfortable shoes in the whole universe!!! La idea era entender si dados los resultados inentendibles para mí había alguna contraindicación seria para seguir entrenando, o si podía quedarme trankila y seguir.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Me dijo que si bien había una roturita pequeña en el labrum no era para operar, a su juicio. Que había un pequeño riesgo de que se rompiera más producto del ejercicio (principalmente de los rebotes), pero que el sabía que lo más probable es que yo no abandonara este objetivo y que lo importante es que tuviera claros los riesgos y asumiera mi responsabilidad. Me dijo que el estaba de acuerdo con que en la vida, uno tiene que hacer las cosas que quiere hacer, para después no arrepentirse.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Creo que puedo aprender a correr de manera de minimizar los rebotes, así que, vamos que se puede!!!&lt;br /&gt;--------------------------------------------&lt;br /&gt;These days I've kept exercisint as usual, without having started to actually train for the marathon, but doing my usual hour of cardio 4xweek and some weight training, nothing too hard.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Last Monday I decided to go see another doctor that could review my MRI's results, since I am not gonna see my doctor until the end of the month. The idea was to understand if given the uncomprehensible (for me) results, there was any recommendation against exercising or if I could be confident and just keep on training.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;He told me that even though there was a tiny breakage in the labrum, it was not necessary to operate, according to his opinion. That there was a little risk of the breakage getting bigger due to the exercise (mainly the bouncing), but that he knew that it was very likely that I would keep on with this objective of mine and that the importante thing was that I was clear about the risks and take responsibility. Rotura de labrum ántero superior a izquierda, zona focal de separación sin desprendimiento del labrum a derecha."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Ni idea de qué significa, pero no suena bien. Entre los viajes mios y de mi doctor, no lo voy a ver hasta fin de mes... así que ahí les contaré.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Por ahora... a seguir entrenando! Con cuidado, pero sin parar! :o)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;----------------------------------------------------------------&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This week MRI results came back (trying to translate what I can):&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"Anatomical conditions predispose for bilateral cam type femoro-acetabular pinching, with super-lateral bump. Breakage of antero superior labrum to left, focal zone of separation with no slip of labrum to right."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;No idea what it means, but it doesn't sound too good. Between my travel and my doctor's, I'm not gonna see him until the end of this month... so I will let you know then.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;For now... keep on training! El objetivo de correr esta maratón es bien simbólico, quiero simbolizar en este acto todos los paradigmas con que he vivido hasta ahora acerca de lo que "puedo" o "no puedo hacer", acerca de qué habilidades tengo y qué habilidades no tengo, o para lo que me han dicho que sirvo o no, etc.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Antes de ponerme a entrenar de lleno fui (responsablemente) al médico y me pidió una tremenda cantidad de exámenes, de los cuales, el último fue una resonancia magnética de ambas caderas, y cuyo resultado me entregan mañana. Luego de eso, tengo que pedir una nueva cita para que definitivamente me diga si estoy o no en condiciones. El médico me dijo que esperar a que me dieran la autorización médica para inscribirme en la maratón, pero yo ya me inscribí. En un momento me dije a mí misma, que ningún doctor me va a venir a decir a mí qué es lo que puedo o no puedo hacer. Por último, tal vez no llegue a la meta, pero yo voy a ir igual!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Well, I'll continue telling you about my crusade to no let my past determine my present. The goal of running this marathon is rather symbolic. I want to symbolize in the act all the paradigms with which I've lived until now about what I "can" or "can't do", about what skills I do have and what skills I don't, what I've been told I'm good at, and what I'm not good at, etc.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Before starting my training towards the marathon I (responsibly) went to the doctor and he wanted me to get a lot of tests done, of which, the last one was an MRI with contrast of both my hips, I should be getting that result today. After that, I have to make a new appointment so the doctor finally tells me if I am in or not in condition to do this. He wanted me to wait until I got full medical clearance before submitting the registration form for the marathon, but I already did. At a moment, I had to tell myself that no doctor is going to tell me what I can or can't do. Y justamente quiero que sólo sea eso: historia.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;Yo debo haber aprendido a andar en bicicleta a los 13 años, por ahí, ¡porque era muy torpe! &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;Recuerdo que me costó un mundo aprender a saltar la cuerda, no era muy coordinada. En el colegio, tenía tan malas notas en educación física, que me tuve que eximir para que esas notas no perjudicaran mis opciones de entrar a una buena universidad. En la universidad, en primer año, aprobé todos los ramos, excepto Educación Física (estudié Ingeniería Electrónica).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;Podría decir que "no soy deportista, nunca lo he sido", "soy mala para los deportes", "no tengo los genes adecuados", etc. Pero la idea es que MI PASADO NO DETERMINA MI PRESENTE. El principio acá es que cuando yo nací no venía con una sentencia antideportiva, sino que no desarrollé esas habilidades no más. Y las voy a desarrollar ahora. Ya lo estoy haciendo.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;Entonces acá les voy a ir contando como me va yendo. Mi meta es correr los 42 Km en Chicago el 11 de octubre. Por ahora sólo tengo claro que voy a cruzar la línea de partida... pero mi proceso comienza ahora... ¿llegaré a la meta? Yo digo que SI!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:78%;"&gt;Y sí, este blog va a ser bilingüe porque tengo amigos que hablan inglés y no español y viceversa.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;Let's see, I'm not so sure how this is gonna turn out, but the idea is to share my process of getting to run the Chicago Marathon on October 11th 2009.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;So what? you might be asking yourself... there are lots of marathon runners out there!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;Well, there's a lot in it for me, given my history. And that's exactly what I want it to be: History.&lt;br /&gt;I must have learned how to ride a bike when I was like 13, because I was so clumsy! I remember that jumping the rope was also very difficult for me to learn, I wasn't very coordinated. At school, my grades were so bad in sports, that I had to present some medical documents that I could not do sports, so that the bad grades wouldn't hinder my chances of getting admitted in a good university. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;At the university, in my first semester, I passed all my courses, except sports (I studied Electronics Engineering).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;I could just say that "I am not a sporty person, I have never been", "I am bad at sports", "I just don't have the genes", etc. But the idea is that MY PAST DOES NOT DETERMINE MY PRESENT. The principle is that when I was born I didn't come with a anti-sports sentence, it's just that I didn't develop those skills. And I will now. I am already.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;So here I'm gonna be sharing how it goes. My goal is to run all 42 Kms in Chicago this October 11th. For now the only thing I know for sure is that I will cross the start line... but the process begins now... Will I get to the finsh line? I say I WILL!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;font-size:78%;"&gt;And yes, this blog is gonna be bilingual, because some of my friends speak spanish and not english and viceversa. I apologize for the mistakes I may and will make in english.
