Chi Running

Esta es la tecnica que estoy aprendiendo y que creo que me va a llevar a terminar la maraton con exito. Para todos los que corren y quieran mejorar su eficiencia y para los que no corren y creen que no pueden, les dejo un video de Danny Dreyer, el creador de esta técnica. Tambien esta el libro ChiRunning, se los recomiendo 100%.

A mí, ya me está dando resultados positivos.

This is the technique that I am learning and which I believe is going to take me to the finish line at the marathon. For all of you who run and want to improve your efficiency and for those of you who don't run and believe you can't, I leave here a video with Danny Dreyer, the creator of this technique. There is also the book ChiRunning, which I recommend 100%.

To me, this is already giving positive results.

Soy una Atleta / I am an Athlete

Eso... necesitaba decirlo, escribirlo. Estoy sintiéndolo cada vez más. Es nuevo, pero se siente bien.

Aprovecho de compartir mis objetivos al correr:

1. Correr sin dolor en las rodillas
2. No tener dolor en las caderas o lesiones en las caderas debido a correr
3. Terminar bien la maratón
4. Correr sin lesiones
5. Terminar mis sesiones sientiendome bien
6. Mejorar mi salud en general y mi condición física
7. Reducir o eliminar mi necesidad de medicamentos para la Insulino Resistencia
8. Sentirme mejor acerca de mí misma
9. Aprender a concentrarme y a escuchar mi cuerpo mientras corro, hacer una especie de "meditación corriendo"
10. Sentir que puedo hacer lo que quiera hacer, sin importar lo que haya creído posible en el pasado: Mi pasado no Determina mi PRESENTE

There... I needed to say it, write it. I am feeling it more and more. It's new, but it feels good.

Here I want to share with you my running goals:

1. To run with no knee pain
2. Not to have hip pain or injury due to running
3. To finish well the marathon
4. To run injury free
5. To finish my runs feeling good
6. To improve my overall health and fitness level
7. To reduce or eliminate my need of medication for my Insulin Resistance
8. To feel better about myself
9. Learn to focus and to listen to my body during my runs, to perform a sort of "running meditation"
10. To feel that I can do what i want to do, no matter what I have believed in that past to be possible: My Past does Not Determine my PRESENT

Opiniones Divergentes / Divergent Opinions

No había puesto esto, pero creo que igual es importante ponerlo acá. El miércoles pasado finalmente fui a ver mi médico, el que andaba de viaje y no había podido ver los resultados de mi Resonancia Magnética.

Por suerte había ido al otro doctor antes! Al menos ya estaba advertida de que había una posibilidad de que me quisieran operar... y así fue! Mi médico era de la idea de que la indicación inmediata frente a los resultados de mi examen era cirugía. Esto significaba que no podía correr la maratón este año.

Como tenía la otra opinión me puse un poco más osada y le dije que no me pensaba operar antes de la Maratón. Que mi plan era entrenar y si durante el entrenamiento sentía molestias o dolor, obviamente iba a parar y si era demasiado, no iba a correr y eventualmente me iba a operar. Pero no sin antes hacer el intento (mi dolor ni siquiera está directamente relacionado con el ejercicio!). Estuvo de acuerdo (qué alternativa tenía!), así que ese es plan! :o)

I had not written about this, but I think it is important to do so. Last Wednesday I went finally to see my doctor, the one that was on a trip and had not seen yet the results of my MRI.

Luckily I had seen the other doctor before! At least I was warned that there was a chance they wanted to do surgery on me... and it was the case! My doctor said that the immediate indication regarding the results of my MRI was surgery, which meant that I wasn't gonna run this year.

Since I already had the other doctor's opinion, I was feeling a bit bold and told him that I did not want to have the surgery before the maraton. That my plan was to start training and if during the training i felt discomfort or pain, obviously I would stop and if it was unbearable, I wasn't gonna run, and eventually have surgery. But not without giving it a try first (my pain is not even exercise triggered!). He agreed (what choice did he have!), so that's the plan :o)

PS: I leave a screenprint of my registration confirmation!!!

Zapatillas Nuevas / New Shoes

Ya tengo mis zapatillas nuevas maratonisticas!!!

Estuve en Los Angeles el lunes recién pasado y mi amigo Mike Magdaleno me llevo a la mejor tienda de deportes: Village Runner, en Manhattan Beach. Mike y el vendedor me asesoraron muy bien, sobretodo cada vez que me dejaba llevar por los colores o lo lindas que eran algunas... que difícil abstraerme de eso... al fin y al cabo... soy mujer!!! (Muchas gracias por todo Mike!)

Bueno, gracias a ambos, tengo las zapatillas más feas y cómodas del universo (bromaaa)!!!

Así que acá les presento a las que me van a llevar a cruzar la meta... Ya las he usado 2 veces para salir a correr y se sienten increíbles!

I have my marathon shoes already!!!

I was in LA last Monday and my friend Mike Magdaleno took me to the best sports goods store: Village Runner, in Manhattan Beach. Mike and the salesperson there advised me very well, especially every time I got carried away by the bright colors and beauty of some of the shoes... so difficult to get focused on what matters... in the end... I am a girl!!! (Thanks for everything Mike!).

Well, thanks to both of them, I got myself the ugliest most comfortable shoes in the whole universe!!! (just kidding...)

So here I introduce you to the pair that is gonna take me past the finish line... I have gone running twice in them already and they feel great!

Solo quiero empezar a entrenar! / Can't wait to start training!

Bueno, sigo contándoles acerca de esta cruzada para que mi pasado no determine mi presente. El objetivo de correr esta maratón es bien simbólico, quiero simbolizar en este acto todos los paradigmas con que he vivido hasta ahora acerca de lo que "puedo" o "no puedo hacer", acerca de qué habilidades tengo y qué habilidades no tengo, o para lo que me han dicho que sirvo o no, etc.


Antes de ponerme a entrenar de lleno fui (responsablemente) al médico y me pidió una tremenda cantidad de exámenes, de los cuales, el último fue una resonancia magnética de ambas caderas, y cuyo resultado me entregan mañana. Luego de eso, tengo que pedir una nueva cita para que definitivamente me diga si estoy o no en condiciones. El médico me dijo que esperar a que me dieran la autorización médica para inscribirme en la maratón, pero yo ya me inscribí. En un momento me dije a mí misma, que ningún doctor me va a venir a decir a mí qué es lo que puedo o no puedo hacer. Por último, tal vez no llegue a la meta, pero yo voy a ir igual!

Well, I'll continue telling you about my crusade to no let my past determine my present. The goal of running this marathon is rather symbolic. I want to symbolize in the act all the paradigms with which I've lived until now about what I "can" or "can't do", about what skills I do have and what skills I don't, what I've been told I'm good at, and what I'm not good at, etc.

Before starting my training towards the marathon I (responsibly) went to the doctor and he wanted me to get a lot of tests done, of which, the last one was an MRI with contrast of both my hips, I should be getting that result today. After that, I have to make a new appointment so the doctor finally tells me if I am in or not in condition to do this. He wanted me to wait until I got full medical clearance before submitting the registration form for the marathon, but I already did. At a moment, I had to tell myself that no doctor is going to tell me what I can or can't do. At least, I might not make it to the finish line, but I'll go anyway!
